What is period underwear made of, and how hygienic is it?

Absolutely. Our period underwear is made from high-quality, antibacterial materials that ensure hygiene and freshness. Plus, they’re OEKO-TEX certified, meaning they meet high safety standards for fabric use, free from harmful substances.

To support these properties, simply rinse the underwear in cold water after use until the water runs clear, then hand-wash or machine-wash in cold (30°C) water with a mild detergent.

While our long-term goal is to move away from fossil-fuel-based materials, our underwear does contain polyester. To date, it is the only material we’ve found that ensures optimal performance and leak protection. Performance is a priority for us. By ensuring the product is effective and long-lasting, we provide a more sustainable solution that can be used for years.

Please note that our Tencel™ period underwear is not vegan, as the inner layer uses merino wool. We chose this over a synthetic vegan alternative because wool is a bio-based material that offers superior breathability and comfort. We use only mulesing-free merino wool from a German supplier that meets OEKO-TEX and GOTS standards.

All AllMatters period underwear is made in Portugal.
